Lying on the Tibetan Plateau, in terms of birding, as well as culture, Ladakh offers a stark contrast to the rest of the country. Ladakh’s geography makes it home to a number of high-altitude specialities, with birds like Chukar Partridge, Upland Buzzard, Tibetan Snowcock, Tibetan Sandgrouse, and more!

Day 01: Arrive Leh

Meals: On Own
Accommodation: Mahey or similar
Arrive in Leh. You will be met and transferred to the hotel. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing to the environment.
Overnight stay.

Day 02: Leh

Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Mahey or similar
Today, you will have another day to rest and acclimatize, as well as possibly doing a little light sightseeing in Leh.
Overnight stay.

Day 03: Leh To Sakti Via Agham And Wari La

Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Homestay
After breakfast, checkout and drive to Sakti, stopping en route at Wari La Pass and Agham for some birding.
Overnight stay.
Key species – Tibetan Patridge, Robin Accentor, Güldenstädt’s Redstart, Bearded Vulture, Golden Eagle, White-browed Tit-warbler, White-throated Dipper

Day 04: Sakti To Tso Kar

Meals: Breakfast, and Dinner
Accommodation: Tso Kar Eco Resort
After breakfast, check out and drive to Tso Kar (194 km, and 5/6 hrs). You have the rest of the day to go birding in Tso Kar to look for targets.
Overnight stay.

Day 05-06: Tso Kar

Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Tso Kar Eco Retreat
Two full days of birding in and around Tso Kar.
Overnight stay.
Key Species: Great Rosefinch, Black-winged Snowfinch (Tibetan), Blanford’s Snowfinch, Brandt’s Mountain Finch, Streaked Rosefinch, Red-mantled Rosefinch, Saker Falcon, Eurasian Hobby, Upland Buzzard, Black-necked Crane, Mountain Chiffchaff

Day 07: Tso Kar To Leh

Meals: Breakfast in Tso Kar
Accommodation: None
Spend the morning birding in Tso Kar. After breakfast, check-out and drive to Leh.
