Ladakh is the land of high mountain passes, and beautiful barren landscapes surrounded by rugged mountain ranges and dotted with picturesque lakes. It is a land with a rich Tibetan history that influences every aspect of its culture even today, from the beautiful Buddhist monasteries and gompas, to the mouthwatering Tibetan food.

The park lists more than 150 bird species, many of which breed here. Among the more notable are Besra, Northern Goshawk, Himalayan and Bearded Vultures, Himalayan Monal, and Tawny Owl, to name a few. Also, mammals like Hangul, Jackal, Langur, Leopard and Yellow-throated Martens are common.

As you wander into Leh, the capital of Ladakh, expect to see some of the unique species here like Eurasian Magpie. Along the stream in winter look for Solitary Snipe and White-throated Dipper.
